Synopsis
Anna’s and Thomas’ bandmate was not supposed to die. And Anna was not supposed to kiss Thomas in the aftermath. Nor was she supposed to leave everything and move from Copenhagen to Berlin. And Thomas was most certainly not supposed to just show up one day, when she’s gotten a new life and moved on. But music has its own way. Before Anna finds her own voice in life and music, she has to learn to love, forgive and forget over the summer in Berlin.
DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT Since I first started putting images and sound together, in my first film experiments, the combination of images and music has been the most thrilling part of filmmaking for me. Actually, thrilling is an understatement. It’s the most profound of artistic experiences: a feeling of being able to go beyond words to tell your story. In light of that, it feels natural that my first feature fiction film is about music and musicians, about the role that music can play in our lives, and how music can tell the story of our existences.
Contrasts have been a key element to me. The truly interesting moments often occur in contrast, in a juxtaposition. We try to laugh to suppress our pain or hide it from others. The most beautiful moments in film are often when tragedy meets beauty or joy. This is always where I am digging in A Thousand Hours – where contradictions and conflicting feelings meet.
