Synopsis
The Gheorghius are a devout Romanian-Norwegian couple who move to a village located in a remote fjord, where they befriend their neighbours, the Halbergs. Their children grow close despite their different upbringings. When the teenage Elia Gheorghiu arrives at school with bruises on her body, the local community begins to wonder whether the traditional upbringing the Gheorghiu children receive from their parents could have something to do with it.
COMMENTARY
A clash of cultures and a struggle to understand different views on morality and parenting, in which the interplay of languages hinders communication, while signs, gestures and beliefs diverge without ever finding common ground.
DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT
Our societies have become polarised to the extreme, fuelling a radicalisation that divides people into opposing camps that often loathe one another. We are convinced we are right, while others are always manipulated, radicalised and brainwashed. Fjord is a part of my ongoing reflection on the forces that have reshaped our world in the age of globalisation, migration, the democratisation of expression and post-truth perspectives.
