Festa del cinema
Synopsis
What an Argentine is, it is impossible say. In sixteen stories all starring the talented Francella, the vices and virtues of a chameleon-like society in a permanent state of contradiction parade past: elegant opportunism, middle-class double standards, soccer idolatry, consumerist ambition, the friendship mafia, and appearances to be saved. There is humour in the face of chaos, tender, sharp, ironic and always possible.
COMMENTARY
Diabolical humour, wisecracks and merciless gags are in store for the sixteen characters played by Guillermo Francella. Filthy rich or free-loaders, vain or humble, arrogant or self-effacing, no one is safe from the satire that recalls the unforgettable “monsters” of the Italian-style comedy classic of 1963.
DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT
A reflection on contemporary life in a vast city like Buenos Aires; a film with a distinctly Argentine stamp and themes that are universal. Guillermo and I are huge fans of Italian comedies from the 1960s and 70s, and one of the stories takes place in Italy. As you may know, around four million Italians immigrated to Argentina, making Italian descendants a very significant part of our population. It is common for many Argentinians at some point in their lives to feel the desire to connect with their Italian ancestry — and that is precisely the subject of one of our sixteen stories. Indeed, we went to Sicily and worked with extraordinary Italian actors.
