Synopsis
The documentary weaves together an interview with Monsignor Rino Fisichella, who discusses the debate between secular and theological visions, with a fictional part and previously unreleased footage from the archives of the Istituto Luce and those of the Holy See, to present an intense story of faith, hope and universal emotions.
COMMENTARY
The interview is interspersed with a fictional story featuring a dialogue between a woman (Hope), a man (Suicide) and a third character (the World), along with previously unreleased and memorable footage from the archives of the Holy See and Istituto Luce, the most distinctive of which include the “Fridays of Mercy” visits, the meetings so unconventionally organised by Pope Francis for the Jubilee Year of Mercy (2015-2016).
DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT
Pontifex is a film about Hope. The concept of Hope is conveyed primarily through S.E.R. Monsignor Rino Fisichella who explains its deepest meaning. Framing this remarkable conversation, in parallel, I have explored the interaction between the two realities, personifying Hope, the World and Sin.
