Synopsis
A forty-year-old father, Ciro, and his thirteen-year-old son, Luigi, drive through the eastern outskirts of Naples every night, in search of the man who killed Flavia, their beloved wife and mother. Luigi has been forced to grow up quickly, staying by the side of his drug-addict father in an attempt to prevent his final downfall. The destiny of this odyssey of mourning has already been marked and, over the course of one final night, they will have to face it.
COMMENTARY
For his big-screen debut, Giuseppe Miale Di Mauro, a founding member of NEST — the theatre company in San Giovanni a Teduccio that works with young people in one of the most deprived neighbourhoods on the outskirts of Naples — takes his inspiration from his novel La strada degli americani, to tell a story of anger and redemption.
DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT
I have had this story inside me for so long. I wrote the novel a few years ago. Then I understood that the book could become a sort of container, in to which I could collect the pieces to construct a new story. I focused on telling the story of a desperate man, in constant struggle with his incurable wound. A man who had everything and was suddenly left with nothing.
