Synopsis
Antonio Dumas is a prestigious and sophisticated art historian and cultural manager, but he is also cynical and conceited. He is appointed director of an important museum of modern art in Madrid. In his new position, he will have to deal with a variety of circumstances and conflicts, ranging from trade union issues and political pressures to surreal situations involving exhibitions and artists, in the midst of the unusual fauna that inhabits the art world.
COMMENTARY
After dissecting the universes of painting, literature , and cinema, Gaston Duprat and Mariano Cohn turn their cutting humour on the slice of humanity that inhabits the world of modern art, giving us a well-rounded portrait .
CREATORS' STATEMENT
The series combines fundamental questions on art and human creativity with everyday problems. The contrast between the solemn and institutional atmosphere of the museum and the boldness and transgressions which are typical of modern art results in numerous uncomfortably humorous situations. The photography and aesthetics of the series articulate this contrast, counterpointing the most glamorous aspects of the art world — its avant-gardisms and sophistications — with the tourists, students, employees and administrative offices of the museum. The characteristics of the architectural spaces combined with the exhibition of works of art provide a high-quality, refined and minimalist setting for the stories to unfold in.
