Festa del cinema
Synopsis
1970s-80s, Livorno, Ovosodo, a working class neighbourhood. Piero Mansani talks about his life in the neighbourhood, from his childhood to his marriage. His family, his friends, the Italian teacher who teaches him to love books and most of all Tommaso, his schoolmate during his last year of high school, who is uninhibited and enterprising, and introduces him to a new world of relationships and experiences. And the girls, the hopes and illusions that take him to the threshold of adulthood.
It was 1997 when Ovosodo, the brilliant and bitter social comedy directed by Paolo Virzì, was released in theatres. Twenty-six years later, the feature-length film ¬– which has become one of Italian cinema’s cult films – comes back in a version restored by Infinity+.
Ovosodo is the latest restoration project by Infinity+, a Mediaset Infinity channel. The restoration was completed in HD in 2023 at the Cinema Communication laboratory in Rome.
Director
Paolo Virzì
Born in Livorno in 1964, Paolo Virzì got an early start as a screenwriter and made his directorial debut in 1994, with the film La bella vita, awarded a Silver Ribbon and a David di Donatello for Best Debut Filmmaker. Considered one of the rightful heirs to the tradition of Italian-style comedy, Virzì directs films about social transformations in today’s world, as seen through his ironic and watchful gaze. He has landed twice on the EFA shortlist for Best European Director, and has twice represented Italy at the Academy Awards.
