Synopsis
By means of stock footage and exclusive interviews, the documentary tells the story of the most influential club in the history of Italian music and the man whose entrepreneurial spirit enabled him to revolutionize Italy’s jet set: Sergio Bernardini. From the 1960s to the 80s, La Bussola, the historic club in Marina di Pietrasanta in Versilia was a genuine cultural crossroads.
COMMENTARY
On June 4th 1955, Renato Carosone and his orchestra inaugurated La Bussola at le Focette in Versilia. The owner and impresario was a passionate and stubborn young man, with a keen sense of entertainment and the continuous evolutions of Italian musical culture: Sergio Bernardini, who in the decades that followed was successful in bringing major international stars to the club, discovering talents and taking risks with sophisticated niche performers. A impressive list of artists has performed at Bussola, Bussolotto (on the upper floor, a more intimate space for the jazz of Chet Baker and Romano Mussolini) and Bussoladomani (the 6000-seat tent-theatre inaugurated in 1976, in which Mina gave her last concert in 1978).
DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT
I wanted to tell the story of Sergio, collector of the Stars, a dreamer who succeeded in revolutionizing live performances in Italy. But the film is mainly a mosaic depicting a unique chapter of our history, in which artists, music, customs, and social, economic, and political changes are all intertwined.
