Synopsis

On a dark and stormy night, after their car breaks down, two innocent lovers end up in the castle of bizarre scientist Dr Frank-N-Furter. It is the beginning of a journey into music, sex and madness, in a cult film that subverts every rule with humour and an overwhelming sense of freedom. A timeless cult classic, its legions of fans still flock to screenings around the world, often flamboyantly dressed for the occasion. It is an irreverent anthem to sexual pleasures (of all tastes and genders), a spectacle of variety, combining transvestite aliens and haunted houses, all supported by a powerful kitsch-rock soundtrack. "A one-of-a-kind film, a perfect mash-up of musical, science fiction and B-movies, where 20th-century culture is tossed about in a camp triumph. It grotesquely and irreverently rides the 'liberated' ideals of the post-1968 generations, playing with homosexuality and lesbianism in a disenchanted and amused fashion. It is a laid-back and nostalgic ode to the glorious 'Golden Age,' in a neoclassical setting that is both kitsch and baroque. [...] Frank-N-Furter, the mad scientist, the seductive, transgressive and irresistible histrionic, the sweet transvestite from the planet Transsexual, in the galaxy of Transylvania, remains an unforgettable icon in the collective imagination." (Federica De Paolis)
